Alexandre Pantoja Aims to Stay on UFC 301 Card, Keeps Options Open

Flyweight champ Alexandre Pantoja packed his bags for Mexico, eyes set on UFC Fight Night 237. He was sure of two things.

First off, he knew the night’s big fight would pick his next challenger for UFC 301 in Rio. Secondly, he braced for a not-so-warm welcome from the local fans. But, oh, was he in for a shock.

Instead of jeers, he got cheers. “I thought I was gonna get booed outta the place,” he admitted. “Turns out, they were pretty cool, even calling me ‘hermano’ and all.”

The UFC Mexico showdown threw everyone for a loop. Brandon Royval edged out Brandon Moreno, which was kinda unexpected.

Pantoja mused, “Everyone thought Moreno had it in the bag for a Rio showdown.” He added, “Beating Moreno, especially after I dominated Royval before, just shows where I stand.”

Royval’s victory post came with a twist – he might’ve torn his MCL. Despite this, Pantoja’s game for whatever the UFC throws his way to stay on the UFC 301 card.

“Royval’s injured, Kape missed weight, Albazi’s out after surgery,” Pantoja listed. “My division’s tough, no doubt. Even the 20th ranked guy could give me a run for my money.”

He then threw in a “Rocky” reference, likening himself to Apollo Creed, open to giving newcomers a shot.

“I’m all for it,” he declared. “Be it champs from other leagues or a showdown with Mokaev, I’m ready. Defending my title in Rio? That’s the dream.”
