Brandon Moreno Backup for Pantoja-Royval Title Bout

So, here’s the scoop. Brandon Moreno is lined up as the backup fighter for the flyweight championship bout. This is all set to go down at the UFC 296 co-main event.

But who’s he backing up? Well, Alexandre Pantoja will be defending his 125-pound belt against Brandon Royval. This is happening on Dec. 16 at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas.

Now, if things go sideways with either Pantoja or Royval, Moreno is ready to step in. This was confirmed by multiple outlets after an initial report from Eurosport Nederland.

A bit of history for ya. Moreno had to give up the flyweight strap to Pantoja. This happened at UFC 290 in a match that was a “Fight of the Year” contender.

What’s next for Moreno? He’s expected to go up against Amir Albazi. This five-round, co-main event is scheduled at UFC Mexico City on Feb. 24. But hey, things could change if he’s needed at UFC 296.

Now, let’s talk about Pantoja and Royval. These two have history. They faced off at UFC on ESPN 29, where Pantoja won via a second-round rear-naked choke. This was back in August 2021.

Since then, Royval has been on a roll. He’s won three straight fights since that defeat. And now, he’s got a shot at the flyweight gold. Exciting times, huh?
