Conor McGregor Favored in Possible Match with Michael Chandler

Well, things got a bit heated between the coaches on #TUF31 last night. You could say it reached boiling point. If you missed it, you can catch new episodes every Tuesday on ESPN & ESPN+.

Oh, and by the way, that tweet was from The Ultimate Fighter (@UltimateFighter) on July 5, 2023.

Now, let’s talk about Conor McGregor. You know, the guy who hasn’t competed in over two years? Yeah, that’s him. Despite his hiatus, he’s still favored against Michael Chandler, his coaching rival on “The Ultimate Fighter 31”.

BetOnline has McGregor listed as a -130 favorite. Chandler, on the other hand, is a +110 underdog. Seems a bit unfair, doesn’t it? But wait, there’s more. McGregor recently announced that he’ll be facing Chandler in a middleweight bout on June 29. That’s part of UFC’s International Fight Week. The promotion hasn’t confirmed a date for the bout yet though.

McGregor’s record isn’t exactly stellar lately. He’s 1-3 in his last four Octagon appearances dating back to October 2018. In his last outing, he broke his leg in the opening round of a technical knockout loss to Dustin Poirier at UFC 264 on July 10, 2021. Ouch! McGregor has competed at featherweight, lightweight and welterweight during his promotional tenure, but this would mark his debut at 185 pounds.

Chandler, a former Bellator lightweight champ and UFC title challenger, hasn’t been doing too well either. He’s also lost three of his last four fights. Most recently, the ex-University of Missouri wrestler suffered a third-round submission defeat to Poirier at UFC 281 in November 2022. Chandler will also be making his first middleweight foray should the bout come to fruition.
