David Onama-Lucas Alexander Featherweight Bout Removed from UFC Sao Paulo

The UFC Sao Paulo event has experienced a setback after David Onama had to withdraw from his proposed featherweight bout against Lucas Alexander. Onama’s inability to partake in the upcoming fight is due to an undisclosed injury. The news was made public by the fighter via his social media platforms.

Upon breaking the news, Onama expressed regret over his inability to fight in Sao Paulo. In his online post he apologized to his opponent and his team, clearly citing health reasons for his withdrawal. He stated, “Unfortunately due to injury, I’ve had to pull out of my upcoming fight in Sao Paulo. I apologize to Lucas and his team. I know my health comes first and I hope to be back next year. Thank you all for the love and support.”

UFC Fight Night 231, where the featherweight clash was set to occur, is an event scheduled for a date in Sao Paulo. The event, which will take place at the Ibirapuera Gymnasium, boasts a main card that features a headline heavyweight tilt between Jailton Almeida and Derrick Lewis. Onama, who has been successful in three of his last four Octagon appearances, will be missed, with his recent victory being against Gabriel Santos via a second-round KO. Alexander, on the other hand, has a mixed record in the UFC bouts, last outpointing Steven Peterson. The question of whether Alexander will participate in UFC Night 231 with a new opponent remains uncertain.
