Covington, with a record of 17-3, is no stranger to controversy. Known for his over-the-top trash talk, he didn’t disappoint at the press conference. He had a go at Stephen Thompson and Tony Ferguson. All in a day’s work for him.
But then, things took a turn. During a heated exchange with Leon Edwards, Covington crossed a line. He made a distasteful joke about Edwards’ late father, who was tragically murdered when Edwards was just 13. Not cool, man.
Covington was all bravado. “On Saturday night, I’m going to bring you to a place you never want to be,” he boasted. “I’m going to bring you to the seventh level of hell. We’ll say what’s up to your dad while we’re there.”

Once things calmed down, the press conference resumed. Edwards was asked if the incident made the match more personal. “Not really [personal],” Edwards said. “The guy’s a piece of sh*t; but just make sure you keep that same energy backstage. Keep that energy backstage.”
Covington had a retort ready: “Make sure you save that f*cking energy in the ring Saturday night.”
