Manager Says Islam Makhachev Ready to Fight Dustin Poirier in June

Oh boy, Dustin Poirier just shook things up big time. He took on Benoit St. Denis at UFC 299 and, let me tell you, it was something to see. The fight was the co-main event this past Saturday, and it didn’t disappoint.

Now, Poirier wasn’t exactly the favorite going into this. He was up against St. Denis, a guy not even ranked, but you wouldn’t know it from the fight. The first round? Pure adrenaline. St. Denis came out swinging, putting Poirier under some serious pressure. But Dustin? He’s not one to back down.

Then came round two. Boom! Poirier lands a knockout that had everyone talking. It was brutal, it was beautiful, and it was exactly the comeback he needed. Remember, he was coming off a loss to Justin Gaethje, which had to sting. But this win? It’s like he never missed a beat.

And right after, Dustin didn’t waste any time. He’s eyeing a bigger prize. He called out Islam Makhachev for a title shot in June. Yeah, you heard that right. He’s aiming for the top.

“Islam in June 😤,” Poirier tweeted. And guess what? Makhachev noticed. He even gave Dustin props on Twitter, saying, “Very impressive Dustin 👏🏻💎.” Seems like respect is mutual here.

But here’s where it gets interesting. Ali Abdelaziz, Makhachev’s manager, he’s all in. He took to Twitter too, saying Dustin’s performance was top-notch and that a fight against Makhachev in June would make sense. Especially since, well, everyone else seems to be booked up.

Speaking of booked up, Justin Gaethje’s got his hands full defending his BMF title against Max Holloway at UFC 300. That’s on April 13, by the way. And there’s more. We’ve got a lightweight title eliminator happening there too, with Charles Oliveira facing off against Arman Tsarukyan.

So, if the stars align and June works out, Poirier could be next in line for Makhachev. And after what we just saw? I’d say he’s more than earned it.
