UFC 79 is officially in the books. ‘Nemesis’-led card took place at the Mandalay Bay Events Center in Las Vegas, Nevada, 16 years ago. The ten-fight-event featured some excellent fights and a handful of nice finishes, punctuated by Georges St. Pierre’s Submission (Armbar) victory over Matt Hughes. In the co-main event, Chuck Liddell defeated Wanderlei Silva in round 3 by Decision (Unanimous).

UFC 79 bonus awards
Traditionally, UFC has handed out bonuses for Fight of the Night, Submission of the Night, and Knockout of the Night. The bonuses ranged from $20,000 up to $120,000. In 2014, the promotion has announced the Performance of the Night bonuses will replace the existing Knockout and Submission of the Night awards. The bonuses will be $50,000 each. There are two types of awards:
- Fight of the Night is awarded to both fighters in the most exciting fight of the night.
- Performance of the Night is awarded to fighters who put on the best individual performance.
