Alexander Gustafsson Continues Training, Open to UFC Comeback

Let’s talk about Alexander Gustafsson. The guy’s back in training, and he’s not ruling out a return to the Ultimate Fighting Championship.

Yeah, you heard it right.

He’s still working out at his old stomping ground, the Allstars Training Center in Stockholm, Sweden. Gustafsson’s main reason for getting back into the grind? He wants to stay fit and close to the sport he’s so passionate about. But, don’t get it twisted, he’s not against the idea of stepping back into the ring.

He’s quoted as saying, “I’m going to be here much more now and focus a little bit on myself and my own training and mainly get back in shape. I don’t think about the competing part so much. If it comes, it comes, so time will tell.” That’s what he told Frontkick Online.

His focus is on getting back in shape and doing what he loves – training, grappling, wrestling, hitting pads, and doing some light sparring. He’s been doing this his whole career, so it’s no surprise he’s glad to be back.

But let’s not forget, Gustafsson’s last fight was in July 2022. He suffered a first-round knockout loss against Nikita Krylov at UFC Fight Night 208. That was after a two-year break. And it wasn’t his first loss. He’s lost four straight fights dating back to a title bout defeat against Jon Jones at UFC 232 in 2018.

Despite the losses, “The Mauler” confirmed he’s still under contract with the Las Vegas-based promotion. He said, “If a fight is on the table, let’s talk about that and see how it feels and take it from there. I have the contract with the UFC. I have been with the UFC since 2009, so it’s been a while. I’m still in the business. I’m still under contract. If I fight, it would be in the UFC.”

So, there you have it. Alexander Gustafsson is back in the game, and he’s not ruling out a return to the ring.
