Jose Aldo’s victory at UFC 301 was nothing short of spectacular. He squared off against Jonathan Martinez and showed us all how it’s done. Yet, Cory Sandhagen isn’t sold on the idea of Aldo jumping straight to a title shot. Interesting, huh?
Aldo had previously said “I’m out,” following a loss to Merab Dvalishvili in August 2022. But, the fighter in him couldn’t stay away. He made a triumphant return to the octagon at UFC 301 in Brazil. Against all odds, he clinched a unanimous decision win. Talk about a comeback!
Oh, and about Aldo’s UFC contract? It was the last fight on it. But, Aldo’s open to talks. He’s eyeing a quick leap to a title shot if the UFC can match his best offers. “King of Rio” indeed.
At the post-fight presser, Aldo dropped some news. He’s finished his UFC deal but is willing to negotiate. He’s keen on skipping the queue for the bantamweight title. Dana White, you listening?
However, Sandhagen’s throwing a bit of shade here. He believes Aldo’s win over the No.12-ranked Martinez doesn’t cut it for a title shot. “Oh no way,” he says, despite his respect for Aldo. “You don’t get to come back and just fight for the belt.” Fair point.
Merab Dvalishvili is eyeing his title shot against Sean O’Malley. Meanwhile, Sandhagen’s gearing up for a clash with Umar Nurmagomedov. It’s a title eliminator set for UFC Abu Dhabi on August 3. The division’s heating up, folks. Stay tuned.
