Derrick Lewis surprised everyone, himself included, when he finished Rodrigo Nascimento earlier than expected. This happened at UFC on ESPN 56. What a night, huh?
In the first couple of rounds, Lewis and Nascimento were all tangled up in the clinch. But then, bam! Lewis changed the game in the third round. He landed a massive overhand right, sending Nascimento to the canvas. Didn’t stop there, though. He kept hammering away with punches until the ref had to jump in. All this went down in just 49 seconds of the third round.
Lewis had a plan, you see. “I was really waiting for the fifth round then explode on him,” he said after the fight. But plans change. “He didn’t let me catch my breath, so that’s why I had to finish him,” Lewis explained. Sounds like he barely had a moment to himself out there.
Now, here’s where it gets a bit wild. After his win, Lewis did his victory lap in an… unconventional way. He took off his fight shorts, chucked his cup at the press, and even gave the crowd a cheeky moon. Classic Lewis, always keeping it interesting.
Why the cup toss, you ask? “You know, because y’all boys always talking s—t,” Lewis said, calling out the MMA media. Seems like he wanted to give them a taste of their own medicine. “‘Oh, Derrick don’t got it anymore! Blah blah blah!’ Yeah. Mmhmm.” That showed them, didn’t it?
But wait, there’s more. Lewis is eyeing a new arena – the WWE. Yep, the man’s considering a crossover to sports entertainment. “That’s what we’re supposed to be doing in a few weeks, maybe. Going to Orlando and checking the [WWE] facility out,” he mentioned. Imagine the possibilities!
And if you’re wondering what Dana White thinks about this, he’s all for it. “I didn’t know that, but I would do anything for Derrick Lewis,” White said. He’s open to his fighters trying out WWE if that’s what they dream of. So, who knows? We might just see Lewis in a WWE ring soon. Wouldn’t that be something?
