Erin Blanchfield Demands Flyweight Title Opportunity Following Grasso-Shevchenko Stalemate

In a highly anticipated rematch, Valentina Shevchenko faced off against Alexa Grasso for the UFC women’s flyweight title at Noche UFC on Saturday at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas. The thrilling main event ended in a split draw after 25 intense minutes, allowing Grasso to retain her title.

Judge’s Decision and Shevchenko’s Reaction

Judge Mike Bell submitted a 10-8 fifth round in favor of the champ, a decision that Shevchenko attributed to the Mexican Independence Day “pressure.” Grasso, on the other hand, did not seem particularly interested in a trilogy fight but said she would ultimately accept the UFC’s decision regarding matchmaking.

Erin Blanchfield’s Thoughts on the Division

UFC flyweight contender Erin Blanchfield also expressed her belief that the division needs some fresh competition. However, she doesn’t mind proving herself one more time against French standout Manon Fiorot, who is currently trailing her in the UFC.com rankings. In an interview with The Schmo, Blanchfield said, “I feel like I definitely should be next. I feel like trilogies sometimes can clog up the divisions. And I think putting some new blood in for the title will be super helpful. But you know, I mean I know Manon’s right behind me, so if anything, I can beat her up too if they do a trilogy. But I wanna be next.”

As the dust settles from the exciting Shevchenko-Grasso rematch, fans and fighters alike eagerly await the UFC’s next move for the women’s flyweight division. Whether it will be a trilogy fight or new challengers for the title, the future looks promising for this competitive division.
