Over the weekend, Jan Blachowicz took umbrage when Alex Pereira called out Israel Adesanya following his title win at UFC 295. The disagreement unfolded after Pereira’s match with Jiri Prochazka, which was the main event of UFC 295, held at Madison Square Garden in New York. Pereira claimed a second-round TKO win over Prochazka and made UFC history by becoming the fastest double champ after taking only seven fights to win titles in two weight classes.
Following his victory, Pereira called out his longtime rival Adesanya, and invited him to take part in the light heavyweight division. It is worth noting that Pereira, also known as “Poatan,” has two kickboxing victories over Adesanya. He also dethroned Adesanya last November at UFC 281 before getting knocked out by “The Last Stylebender” earlier this year.
Despite this history, Blachowicz was upset about Pereira’s callout and expressed his dissatisfaction on social media. He wrote, “[Alex Pereira] I know you’re a slimy one. Calling out Izzy. Great performance and all but STFU, we have unfinished business you and I. The judges won’t give you hand outs next time. Pathetic.”
On the other hand, Blachowicz had previously invited Pereira to the light heavyweight division at UFC 291. During the event, “Poatan” barely won a split decision, which secured him the title shot against Prochazka. Despite the official result, Blachowicz believes he was the rightful winner of the fight. “I see I need to clarify,” he wrote in a subsequent Twitter post. “People see me that I’m a nice guy all the time. But sometimes I get pissed off, like everyone in life. I’m still super angry that they stole my W against Pereira. Now he calls out Adesanya again. Give it a rest already. We’ve been there 4 times!”
Blachowicz, claiming to have “unfinished business” with Pereira, is also preparing for a new match. The former light heavyweight champion will engage in a rematch with Aleksandar Rakic at UFC 297 on Jan. 20 in Toronto. Expressing his sentiments, Blachowicz posted on Twitter, “This is LHW and that split decision means we have unfinished business here. I’m just saying what I feel. Don’t blame me for it. Just letting you know this. This is all from me. I’m going back to the gym. Got a new opponent and a job to do.”
