Jorge Masvidal asserts his dispute with Colby Covington is far from over, irrespective of the resolution of his criminal case dating back to March 2022. The notorious altercation between the two occurred outside a Miami steakhouse, less than two weeks after their UFC 272 battle, which Covington won via unanimous decision. As part of a plea deal the following Monday, Masvidal pleaded guilty to a misdemeanor battery charge, allowing two grave felony charges of battery and criminal mischief to be dismissed.
Despite the resolution of the lawsuit, Masvidal remains adamant that his issues with Covington are not finished. During a recent conversation on “The MMA Hour,” he expressed his unresolved feelings towards his competitor. In his words, “I don’t know when, but me and Colby are going to see each other at some point, whether it’s in a f—ing cage or I don’t know where the f—k it’s going to be. We’re going to see each other. For him lying on my name, for him pressing charges, for everything he’s done, we are going to see each other. It’s going to be fun, man. It’s going to be interesting. I’m going to knock the rest of his teeth out. I got to knock two of his fake ass teeth out [in March 2022].”
Masvidal continues, suggesting potential man-to-man confrontation against Covington without anger or resentment, but simply as a matter of principle. “[If] we see each other, let’s handle it, bro, like f—king men – and that’s all it is”. He is, nonetheless, upset that the case meant the temporary loss of his firearms. Retired as of April following a decision loss to Gilbert Burns, the Miami native is on a four-fight losing streak. Contrastingly, Covington is due to challenge Leon Edwards for the welterweight title at UFC 296 on Dec. 16 despite having not competed since his clash with Masvidal.
