A flyweight competition is set to feature Julija Stoliarenko and Luana Carolina on Feb. 3 in a UFC Fight Night card at the UFC Apex, Las Vegas, a fact confirmed by Carolina’s management via an Instagram post. The Fight Night card will also host a heavyweight bout featuring Thomas Petersen and Jamal Pogues. Petersen has so far secured eight victories with only one loss while Pogues stands at ten victories and four losses.
Lithuanian fighter Stoliarenko, entering the fight with a victory of 11-7 from her Round 1 armbar submission won against popular English fan-favourite Molly McCann in July, aims at securing a few victories to ensure her spot in the promotion roster. Given Stoliarenko’s past record of 2-4 with the Las Vegas-based promotion, the upcoming match with Carolina is an important avenue for her to improve her standing.
In contrast, Carolina from Brazil is entering the Octagon following a challenging unanimous decision victory over Ivana Siric Petrovic, a victory that put an end to her two-consecutive-fight losing streak. Prior to her defeat by Petrovic, Carolina had faced a split-decision loss against Joanne Wood and a knockout loss inflicted by McCann. This fight will thus be crucial in terms of shaping her future career trajectory.
