Leon Edwards Discusses Alleged Training Knockout of Ian Garry

Ultimate Fighting Championship welterweight king, Leon Edwards, recently shared some thoughts. He talked about his perceived dispute with rising welterweight prospect, Ian Garry.

Interestingly, Garry and Edwards had a bit of a feud. The issue? Garry was barred from Edwards’ Team Renegade gym. Garry’s take? He was thrown out due to Edwards’ “insecurities.”

Edwards, however, had a different story. He totally dismissed Garry’s narrative. “I feel like once he came to the gym, he just didn’t fit into the gym,” Edwards told MMAFighting.com.

Edwards went on to say, “This is like the third gym now he’s been kicked out of. It is what it is. He’s just a different kind of guy. He’s hard to blend with.” Edwards pointed out that Garry always had a camera around him, and his family was always present.

Edwards didn’t see any bad blood in the situation. However, he felt that Garry made a big deal out of it. He said, “He’s been kicked out of more gyms than mine. Like, why are you making such a big deal out of it? Because I’m the champion, he wants to ride off the back of my coattails.”

After Garry’s spat with Edwards, another fighter, Paddy Pimblett, claimed to have heard rumors. He said he heard about “Rocky” knocking out “The Future” in training. Edwards addressed those rumors, admitting that he didn’t exactly put Garry to sleep.

“I didn’t knock him out clean, no,” Edwards said. “He got a little taste [of the Kamaru Usman head kick] for sure.”

Edwards also shared his thoughts on Garry’s future in the welterweight category. “Skill-wise, he’s a long way away from even a thought in my brain for competing for a title,” Edwards said. He added, “Like I said, I wish him well in his endeavors but I feel like skill-wise right now, he’s not a guy I think ‘Oh s—t, I need to stay away from this guy.’”
