Lucas Alexander, after creating a stir in the Ultimate Fighting Championship featherweight division, now has the task of demonstrating that he can maintain the momentum he has started. The 28-year-old Brazilian fighter is preparing for his next challenge at the UFC Apex, where he will face Jeka Saragih. The fight is part of the UFC Fight Night 232 undercard, taking place on Saturday in Las Vegas. Alexander boasts a winning record of six out of his seven recent fights. In March, he managed to even his Octagon record at 1-1 after defeating Steven Peterson from Fortis MMA at UFC on ESPN 43.
Alexander expressed the significance of his win against an experienced fighter. He believes it validated his status in the UFC. The satisfaction derived not just from the win but the manner in which he secured it, following extensive, hard work. “For me, it was important to get a win over an experienced fighter. It solidified my position in the UFC. The way I won—that was important. I worked hard to make that happen. It was very gratifying. I expect this is the start of a winning streak,” remarked Alexander.
His next target is Saragih, a finalist from “Road to UFC” Season 1 tournament. Saragih, an Indonesian native, made his promotional debut at UFC Fight Night 218, a match in which he fell to Anshul Jubli’s second-round punches and elbows on February 4. With only one of his 16-career fights seeing him go the distance, Saragih is a worthy opponent. Alexander, however, prepares thoroughly for every opponent, studying his adversaries well to formulate the best strategy. He anticipates a competitive encounter and claims, “In the end, an opponent is an opponent. All that varies are some characteristics, pluses and minuses. My coaches and I study my opponents well to formulate the best strategy. I expect a great fight.”
As a member of the Fusion X-Cel in Ocoee, Florida, Alexander is guided by coaches Julien Williams, Dominique Simmons, and Bruno Antunes. He shares training space with world-class stablemates such as Philip Rowe, Lyoto Machida, and Rodolfo Vieira. Alexander has reaffirmed his dedication to showcasing his techniques and strategies honed through rigorous training. His ambitions and future plans are centered around overcoming Saragih for now. He is looking to secure at least two consecutive wins to consolidate his standing in UFC and aims to end the year on a high note by renewing his contract.
