Middleweight Champions Sean Strickland & Dricus du Plessis Fight at UFC 296

So, what happened between Sean Strickland and Dricus Du Plessis at #UFC296? It was quite a scene, let me tell ya.

They had a full-blown incident, right there in front of everyone. And it’s all over Twitter, with folks eagerly sharing their thoughts and videos of the event.

But hey, I’m getting ahead of myself here. Let’s back up a bit.

Sean Strickland and Dricus Du Plessis, two big names in the Ultimate Fighting Championship, were attending the last pay-per-view event of 2023. They were just there, hanging out near the cage, when things got heated.

Strickland is set to defend his middleweight title in the UFC 297 headliner on January 20, in Toronto. But it seems he and Du Plessis couldn’t wait till then to square off. They ended up too close for comfort at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas for UFC 296.

And then, well, things got messy.

A dustup broke out between the two in the crowd. It got so bad that law enforcement had to step in and escort the middleweight champ out of the arena.

Jared Gordon, a UFC lightweight who happened to be in the arena, saw the whole thing. He took to his X account (you know, the one that used to be called Twitter) and claimed that Strickland jumped over seats to “assault” Du Plessis.

And that’s not all.

Strickland and Du Plessis also had a heated altercation during UFC’s 2024 seasonal press conference in Las Vegas. Apparently, the champ teased a sexual relationship between Du Plessis and a coach.

There’s even a tweet from Helen Yee showing Sean Strickland leaving the arena after being separated by cops. Quite the spectacle, huh?

So, yeah, that’s the story. Quite a night at #UFC296. Now, we wait for #UFC297 in January. Let’s see what happens then.
