Miles Johns, a UFC bantamweight fighter, discussed his thoughts on fellow bantamweight competitor Sean O’Malley in a recent interview. Johns emphasized that while he believes O’Malley is underrated by many, he is confident in his ability to defeat him if they were to go head-to-head in the Octagon.

O’Malley’s Underrated Status
Johns explained that O’Malley is often underrated due to his background in the sport, as well as his less than conventional fighting style. He stated, “I think he’s underrated, man. A lot of people don’t give him the credit he deserves because of where he came from, the Contender Series and stuff like that.” He also mentioned that O’Malley’s “weird, unorthodox style” may contribute to the underestimation of his abilities.
However, Johns did acknowledge O’Malley’s success in the UFC, referring to his impressive 6-1 record in the Octagon. He also praised O’Malley’s recent victory over Kris Moutinho on July 10, 2021, at UFC 264, where O’Malley displayed his striking skills and earned a third-round TKO.
Johns’ Confidence in Defeating O’Malley
Despite recognizing O’Malley’s talents, Johns expressed confidence in his own abilities to defeat the fellow bantamweight. He stated, “But I think I’m the guy to beat him. I think I have the skills and the abilities to beat Sean O’Malley.” Johns believes his own wrestling and grappling skills would give him an advantage over O’Malley, who is known more for his striking abilities.
Johns, who is currently on a two-fight win streak with victories over Kevin Natividad on October 31, 2020, and Anderson dos Santos on July 24, 2021, hopes to continue his rise in the bantamweight division. A potential matchup against O’Malley could prove to be an exciting and challenging fight for both athletes, as they showcase their contrasting fighting styles and vie for a higher ranking in the competitive bantamweight division.
