Nova Uniao featherweight prospect Kaue Fernandes is aiming to follow in the footsteps of his accomplished stablemate, Jose Aldo. Fernandes recently signed with the Ultimate Fighting Championship, with his debut expected for November 4 in Sao Paulo, Brazil. An opponent has not yet been confirmed for the bout.
Background and Training
Fernandes, a former Shooto Brazil featherweight champion who most recently competed under the Legacy Fighting Alliance banner, has been dubbed by some as the heir apparent to the retired former UFC featherweight champion. Born in Rio de Janeiro, Fernandes started practicing muay thai at the young age of 7. Instead of following the typical path of his classmates after completing his studies, Fernandes chose to focus on honing his skills in the gym, where he learns new techniques and trains as a professional fighter.
Inspiration and Motivation
The presence of accomplished athletes at Nova Uniao provides motivation for the long journey. Inspiration, seen on television and in the newspapers, stands right beside him in the stifling gym in the South Zone of Rio de Janeiro. Fernandes said, “It’s a great inspiration to look to one side and have a champion, look to the other side and have another champion. It’s high-level training, it gives you an extra desire to train. The best thing you can have is a bunch of people to look up to every day. We have Jose Aldo, Dudu Dantas, Leo Santos, who was amazing in jiu-jitsu. That makes you motivated to give your all every day.”
With a solid background, dedicated training, and a source of inspiration surrounding him, Kaue Fernandes is looking to make his mark in the UFC. As he prepares for his debut on November 4th, he will continue to follow the example of his fellow champions and strive for greatness in the world of mixed martial arts.
