Breaking news in the Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) world announced a significant change on top of the UFC 295 lineup. Sergei Pavlovich has been pitted against Tom Aspinall for the interim heavyweight crown in the new main co-event. This followed the withdrawal of reigning champion Jon Jones from the card due to an injury he sustained during training. Sadly, he was supposed to face Stipe Miocic in the original headliner for UFC 295. Whether Miocic was offered a fight against either Tom Aspinall or Sergei Pavlovich is yet to be confirmed.
That’s not all, a light heavyweight championship face-off featuring Jiri Prochazka against Alex Pereira has been moved up, making it the evening’s new headliner. Prochazka is a strong contender in the light heavyweight division, and his match against Pereira, another promising fighter, is highly anticipated by UFC fans. UFC’s CEO, Dana White, announced these changes late on Tuesday night.
White also shared an unfortunate update about Jon Jones. He disclosed, “Jon Jones was training last night, got injured. He was wrestling and tore the tendon that connects your pec to the bone, off the bone. Eight months, gonna need surgery. He’s out.” This comes as a blow to Jones’ fans, who were looking forward to his fight. In the meantime, Pavlovich is all set to take on Aspinall, riding on a six-bout winning streak, with all those victories achieved through first-round knockout or technical knockout. Aspinall too has an impressive record, having made a triumphant return from knee surgery this past July. But all eyes will be on Jones’ return, as after a three-year hiatus he won the heavyweight strap and had hinted about retiring after the fight with Miocic. According to White’s prognosis, Jones will not be able to return until mid-2024.
UFC 295 is all set to take place on November 11 at the Madison Square Garden in New York, ensuring a thrilling experience for all UFC enthusiasts. Despite the unexpected changes, avid followers are eagerly waiting for the event. Villains or heroes, the fighters are ready, and the stage is set for a night of adrenaline filled UFC battles.
