Rose Namajunas Challenges Claim of Being Too Small for Flyweight Division

Former strawweight champion Rose Namajunas has decided to remain at the 125-pound flyweight division, despite her recent unanimous decision loss to Manon Fiorot at UFC Fight Night 226. In a social media video, Namajunas expressed her preference for the flyweight division and her intent to add more muscle to her frame, eliminating any plans to return to the strawweight class.

Staying at Flyweight

Namajunas stated that she enjoys competing in the flyweight division and has no interest in returning to the strawweight class. She explained, “I’m definitely going to stay [at flyweight]. I want to put a little more muscle on. I don’t want to go back down [to strawweight], definitely not. I felt so much better not cutting that weight.” She further mentioned that cutting weight is not healthy for one’s body, particularly the kidneys and brain.

Responding to Fiorot’s Comment

Namajunas’ decision to stay at flyweight comes despite her opponent Fiorot’s post-fight claim that she’s too small for the weight class. Namajunas pointed out that she was competitive throughout the fight and dislocated her finger in the opening round. She responded to Fiorot’s comment saying, “I might have had some moments of freaking out because I couldn’t grip my fingers together or I couldn’t make a fist but definitely not too small. If anything, why were you running away from [somebody] too small? Why did you originally call me out if I’m too small? I have no problems if she thinks she won. Great. Respect. But don’t say I’m too small because that’s not the case at all.”

Namajunas is determined to continue building her strength and improving her performance in the flyweight division. Despite the setback from her recent loss, she remains confident in her abilities and is looking forward to future challenges in her chosen weight class.
