Oh boy, Ryan Garcia’s stepping into the MMA ring? That’s what he reckons, aiming to square off against UFC’s bantamweight king, Sean O’Malley. Yeah, you read that right.
And guess what? He’s not just talking the talk. Garcia’s thrown down the gauntlet, calling for a UFC showdown with O’Malley. But, there’s a catch. He wants Dana White to open up that UFC treasure chest real wide.
“I’d fight Sean O’Malley in the UFC, that’s it. But Dana, you’d have to cut me that real check,” Garcia tweeted. You can almost hear the dollar signs in his eyes, can’t you?
O’Malley, never one to back down, fired back with a warning that could chill you to the bone. These two had a bit of a back-and-forth online, with Garcia even sharing a screenshot of their spicy exchange.
“Alright rainbow head, There is only one way to find out… Dana let’s do this,” Garcia shot back on Twitter. The anticipation’s killing me, folks.
But let’s not get ahead of ourselves. The UFC and Dana White haven’t been too keen on these crossover fights lately. Plus, there’s some bad blood between White and Garcia’s promoter, Oscar De La Hoya. So, this dream match might stay just that—a dream.
For now, Garcia’s got his eyes on a different prize. He’s gearing up to face WBC junior welterweight champ Devin Haney in New York City on April 20. Coming off a knockout win last December, Garcia’s looking to keep that momentum going.
On the flip side, O’Malley’s prepping for his own battle. He’s defending his bantamweight title against Marlon Vera in a much-anticipated rematch at UFC 299 in Miami on March 9.
So, while we all dream of what could be in the Garcia vs. O’Malley saga, these fighters have real battles ahead. Only time will tell if this crossover clash will ever come to fruition. But man, wouldn’t that be something?
