Trevor Peek has a big goal in mind. He wants to prove that “scousers” can indeed get knocked out, and he’s looking to do this by challenging the rising UFC star, Paddy Pimblett.
Pimblett’s been on a hot streak. He’s been undefeated since 2018, including five wins under the UFC banner. This has made him one of the most recognizable talents in the promotion. Peek’s aware that Pimblett’s career is on an upward trajectory.
Peek shared his thoughts on Pimblett’s career on his YouTube channel. He said, “I think Paddy is on a good career path. I think [the UFC] is going to take care of him and going to match him smartly.” Peek believes that Pimblett is being groomed for success and that he’s capable of beating a Top 15. However, Peek also questions whether Pimblett’s skills are on par with the top guys.
Peek sees Pimblett’s momentum as an opportunity. He sees him as a potentially lucrative opponent and believes he can beat the Liverpudlian. Pimblett, after a comeback win in his UFC debut against Luigi Vendramini in 2021, famously claimed that “scousers [Liverpudlians] don’t get knocked out.” Peek disagrees and wants a chance to prove it.
Peek’s confident about this potential match-up. He said, “Oh yeah, I do [want that fight.] Scousers get knocked out. I can show the world scousers get knocked out.” Peek’s been watching Pimblett for years, since his time in Cage Warriors. He’s ready to take on the “hype train.”
Peek made his UFC debut in February, winning in the first round against Erick Gonzalez. He then suffered his only career loss against Jose Mariscal in a memorable bout at UFC on ABC 5 in June. Peek bounced back with a unanimous decision win over Mohammed Yahya at UFC 294 in October. He’s eager to fight Pimblett, but he knows it’s unlikely right now.
Peek understands the business side of things. He said, “They’re not going to make that fight for a long time just because I’m a dangerous fight, and they’re trying to build him.” Peek hopes to prove his value and be built up as well. He’s ready for whatever comes his way, whether it’s being taken care of or being thrown to the wolves.
