Israel Adesanya will defend his undisputed Ultimate Fighting Championship middleweight crown against Sean Strickland in the UFC 293 main event on Saturday at Qudos Bank Arena in Sydney. In the heavyweight co-headliner, Alexander Volkov will face Tai Tuivasa. Strickland, on the other hand, has banked $100,000 in post-fight bonuses across his 19 assignments in the UFC, being awarded “Performance of the Night” twice.
Volkov and Tuivasa Numbers
Volkov spent 337 days as the Bellator MMA heavyweight champion, capturing the title with a five-round unanimous decision over Rich Hale at Bellator 84 on Dec. 14, 2012, and then losing it to Vitaly Minakov at Bellator 108 on Nov. 15, 2013. Tuivasa scored his fastest finish to date in July 2012 when he took just 20 seconds to put away Simon Osborne with punches at an Elite Cage Championships show.
Felipe dos Santos, the youngest fighter on the card, was born in Maceio, Brazil, on Sept. 11, 2000, and will make his promotional debut against Manel Kape in a three-round flyweight showcase. Kape has started 52 rounds as a professional mixed martial artist, going the distance on six different occasions and carrying a 2-4 record in those bouts.
Austen Lane has scored 11 wins by knockout or technical knockout, accounting for 92% of his career total (12), and will face Justin Tafa in a three-round heavyweight rematch. Tafa has a reach of 74 inches and will face a six-inch disadvantage against the 6-foot-6 Lane, a former NFL defensive lineman.
