UFC Champion Jon Jones Has Elbow Surgery

Jon Jones is already knee-deep in rehab. But, he’s decided to tackle some other health issues while he’s at it.

He’s the UFC heavyweight champ. And he’s just revealed on social media that he’s had surgery on his left elbow.

Jones has been out of action for a while now. He tore his pectoral during training before he was due to defend his title against Stipe Miocic last November.

He’s back in California with Dr. Neal ElAttrache. This time around, they’re not fixing a pec but working on his left elbow. Jones shared a video on Instagram, saying he was an hour off the surgery table.

The surgery lasted two hours and involved shaving down some bone spurs. The good news? It’s about a 10-week healing process. And since he’s already out for months due to the pec surgery, he thought, “Why not kill two birds with one stone?”

Jones is back in a sling and back on the recovery journey. He believes sometimes you have to take a step back to move forward. And he’s patient. He’s grateful for the support, love, and positive energy from his fans. And he promises to be back.

Dr. ElAttrache is the head team physician for the NFL’s Los Angeles Rams and MLB’s Los Angeles Dodgers. He also performed the surgery on Jones’ torn pectoral. Jones is expected to face Miocic once he is cleared to compete again. But, there’s no set date for his return yet.

After Jones had to pull out from UFC 295, Tom Aspinall claimed the interim title. He did it with a first-round stoppage of Sergei Pavlovich. Aspinall has been vocal about being next in line to face “Bones.” But it seems like the promotion still plans on rebooking Jones vs. Miocic sometime in 2024.
