The reigning middleweight king, Sean Strickland, didn’t hold back his words recently. He launched a verbal tirade against Colby Covington at the Ultimate Fighting Championship’s seasonal press conference last Friday.
Covington, with a record of 17-3, is all set to challenge Leon Edwards (21-3) for the welterweight title. This showdown is scheduled for UFC 296 this weekend. “Chaos,” as Covington is known, has been spewing distasteful humor not just at Edwards, but also at Strickland (28-5). He’s gone as far as labeling the middleweight champ a “pathetic human being.”
Strickland didn’t take these words lying down. He shot back at Covington, saying, “Colby is an utter piece of sh*t.” He further added, “If you know Colby on a personal level, he f*cked over everybody he f*cking knows. I take Colby as a personal insult to me because the Trumpsters, the Republicans, you guys are my f*cking people; the blue-collar workers.”
Strickland didn’t stop there. He continued his rant against Covington, accusing him of taking advantage of his own people. “You guys are my f*cking people, and you guys have a c*nt like Colby come in here taking advantage. He don’t give a f*ck about you.”
Strickland was particularly incensed by Covington’s mockery of Edwards’ father. He described it as a “c*nt move.” He defended Edwards’ upbringing, saying, “She raised a boy to be a f*cking man, to win a title and be a good man. A real f*king American would applaud him for that, he wouldn’t tear him down. Colby is a fake f*king p*ssy.”
Strickland, with a record of 28-5, is gearing up for his first title defense. He’s set to face South Africa’s Dricus Du Plessis (20-2) on Jan. 20 at UFC 297. The co-main event will feature Raquel Pennington taking on Mayra Bueno Silva for the vacant bantamweight title. The event will take place at Scotiabank Arena in Toronto.
