Yazmin Jauregui & Sam Hughes Join UFC Mexico Card

A women’s strawweight clash is on the horizon. Mexico’s Yazmin Jauregui is set to face Iowa’s Sam Hughes, and it’s all going down on the UFC Mexico card.

This news first came to light on Friday. The folks over at ESPN Deportes were the first to spill the beans.

Now, let’s talk about the venue. The Ultimate Fighting Championship is making a grand return to Mexico City. The date? Feb. 24. The place? Mexico City Arena. It’s been four-and-a-half years since the last UFC event in Mexico.

Jauregui’s journey to this point is worth noting. She stepped into the UFC ring for the first time in August 2021. She had a spotless 8-0 record at the time. Since then, she’s added two more victories to her tally, albeit with one loss.

The loss was a bit of a shocker. After a Round 2 technical knockout victory against Istela Nunes in 2022, Jauregui suffered her first professional defeat. Denise Gomes knocked her out within the first 20 seconds of their bout at UFC 290 in July this year.

On the other side of the ring, we have Hughes. She’s fresh off a unanimous decision victory against Jaqueline Amorim. The fight took place at UFC 287 in April. Hughes has had a mixed run under the promotional banner, with a 3-4 record. She’s looking to make a splash against the younger Jauregui.

The main event of UFC Mexico is a flyweight showdown. Former champ Brandon Moreno will take on rising star Amir Albazi. But that’s not all. There are additional bouts on the lineup.

We’ve got a pair of flyweight scraps to look forward to. Victor Altamirano is set to face Felipe dos Santos. And Edgar Chairez is gearing up to take on Daniel da Silva. It’s shaping up to be one heck of a night!
